Vaping and K-pods in Singapore: What Parents and Young People Should Know

28 September 2026 · 3 min read

A mother gently holds her young adult son’s hand as they share a difficult conversation at home. Her concerned, reassuring expression and his thoughtful gaze reflect the first steps towards openness,

If you are worried about your own vaping or someone else’s K-pod use, start by checking their immediate safety and having a calm conversation. If someone has trouble breathing, has a seizure, becomes unresponsive or appears seriously unwell, call emergency services immediately.

Addictions Recovery Singapore provides confidential vaping, K-pod and etomidate counselling for young people, adults and families. Our counsellors have experience supporting clients affected by these concerns. We offer outpatient sessions in Singapore and can also discuss inpatient rehabilitation through our partner facilities in Kuala Lumpur and Chiang Mai.

What is a K-pod?

In Singapore, “K-pod” commonly refers to a vape pod containing etomidate. Etomidate is an anaesthetic substance used in medical care under professional supervision. Inhaling it through a vape can cause serious health effects, including confusion, tremors, uncontrolled movements and changes in breathing.

You cannot reliably identify a pod’s contents by looking at it. If someone appears unwell after vaping, take their symptoms seriously.

What are the signs of K-pod or vaping use?

Changes in behaviour alone do not prove what someone has used. Signs that a person may need support include:

  • Repeated vaping despite wanting to stop
  • Strong cravings or distress when unable to vape
  • Hiding devices or avoiding conversations about vaping
  • Using a vape to cope with stress or difficult feelings
  • Problems at home, school or work connected with vaping
  • Confusion, tremors, poor coordination or unusual drowsiness after vaping

If someone has trouble breathing, has a seizure, becomes unresponsive or appears seriously unwell, call emergency services immediately.

How should parents respond if they find a K-pod?

Choose a calm, private moment. Begin with what you have noticed and your concern for their safety:

“I found a vape pod, and I’m worried about you. Can you tell me what’s been happening?”

Listen to their response. Ask whether vaping is linked to stress, social pressure or cravings. You do not need to resolve everything in one conversation. Keeping communication open can make it easier for them to accept support.

If your child is not ready for counselling, you can still seek parent guidance. A counsellor can help you plan the next conversation, consider boundaries and decide on practical steps.

Can counselling help with vaping or K-pod use?

Yes. Counselling can help a person understand their patterns of use and build a practical plan for change. Depending on their needs, sessions may focus on triggers, cravings, coping skills, family communication and relapse prevention.

Our counsellors have experience supporting clients affected by vaping, K-pods and etomidate use. We also work with parents and families who are unsure how to help a loved one.

Is support confidential?

Yes. Our service is confidential and appointment-based. We provide a private, respectful setting where clients and families can speak openly. We explain how confidentiality works when counselling begins.

What treatment options are available?
